AMY ELIZABETH | ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Hi, I’m Amy Elizabeth—a dance creative, arts administrator, educator, podcaster and lifelong learner with a deep love for movement, collaboration, and community.
Dance found me early, and it’s been my language ever since. I’ve always been fascinated by the way bodies speak—how they hold stories, carry emotion, and create connection. That curiosity led me to earn my B.F.A. and M.F.A. in Dance from Sam Houston State University, where I dove into technique, composition, and research. My thesis, which explored female body image through the lens of breast cancer, reminded me that movement is not just art—it’s healing.
Later, I earned my MBA from Lamar University because I believe artists should feel empowered in the business of their work, not intimidated by it. My training in both art and administration has shaped how I approach dance today: with both creativity and strategy, freedom and structure.
Currently, I serve as an Assistant Professor of Dance at Lamar University, where I teach courses in modern technique, choreography, improvisation, dance history, and arts management. I also advise our dance majors, lead recruitment, and chair the curriculum committee for our evolving B.S. in Theatre & Dance. I love helping students map out their paths—whether it’s crafting a portfolio, composing a duet, or finding confidence in their personal and creative voice.
Aimed Dance is a company and platform that allows me to produce, create, and gather artists through seasonal concerts, festivals, and residencies. Aimed Dance Summer Fest, one of our most cherished projects, brings dancers and makers together for a week of learning, experimenting, and sharing. It’s become a space where professional and pre-professional artists grow side by side. The Dance Unscripted Podcast is our newest creative project that expands our community, connection, and engagement.
Above all, I believe in the power of people—their stories, their potential, their resilience. Dance is my way of holding space for that.
Let’s connect, move, or collaborate sometime.
